Understanding Ourselves

When you were a child your parents set limits for your protection. At the earlier ages, you could not go outside your home without an adult. If you strayed into the street after be warned not to, your mother may have given your backside a few love taps to reinforce her words. You had to play in your neighborhood. You had to be home before dark. Your parents established these restrictions to keep you safe from harm.

As a student, the school had rules with the intent of creating a suitable environment for education. These regulations concerned a variety of concerns. Class period times; silence in the classroom; homework; meal periods; and school uniforms were all included.

Societies and governments establish laws for public order, social harmony and public safety. Traffic lights; noise limits; business licenses and criminal offenses are among the many concerns of governments.

Basically, we have grownup and lived in a society that is based upon laws, regulations and rules. These parameters are designed for social order and for the welfare and protection of the citizenry. Our parents and our schools placed additional limits upon us.

We are Products of Our Environment
What does all this mean? Simply put, we have been living our whole life in a society that surrounds us with limits. Consequently, it is no surprise that when we enter a new activity we, we anticipate new limits and look for these limits.
We often hesitate to take some actions on the ingrained presumption that some new limits exist somewhere out there, and they are waiting to control us.

Breakaway
You are moving down your own path to personal Success. It is your own road, not someone else’s. No one has ever followed the same dream you have.
It does not matter which endeavor you are undertaking: a romantic relationship; an office job; a computer software class; your own business, whatever. If your goal is important to you, then, approach it with Gusto.

Pursue your dream. Wait; let’s stop for a moment. From now on, when you are referring to your future plans; let’s reword your sentences and change the noun ‘Dream’ to ‘Vision’ and the verb ‘dream’ to ‘visualize’. Dreams tend to be illusionary, while Visions have a stronger embrace of future reality. Visions place within you a personal commitment and promote within you a sincere desire to achieve a goal. When you ‘visualize’ being a manager or an overseas MBA student, you see yourself in that role and you start developing yourself to achieve that goal. Dreams connote a childhood fantasy with Never-Never Land. When you visualize your self in a certain role or scenario you begin to see yourself there and take actions to place yourself there. When you visualize a future circumstance, that situation has a propensity to become true. You begin to take positive actions to prepare yourself for that role. You begin to breakdown your personal psychological limits with an, ‘I can do it’ mentality. So, from now on, when you are planning to use a phrase such as, “I dream about getting an MBA in England in the future”, say, “I envision myself getting an MBA in England next year”

Now, go after your Vision with Zest. The secret to achieving success is to break away from this predilection to anticipate future limits. You must remove the concept of limits from your mentality. Remove the “Maybe, I’m not suppose to this!” and “Maybe, I shouldn’t do this!” with “I will try my best to do this!” or better, “I will do it.”

Success
With every new endeavor you undertake, you, in fact, are challenging yourself. As you pursue a new endeavor, you are reaching up to achieve a new goal that you never attempted before. Perhaps, in the past, you never considered this venture possible. Or you believed you were not ready to meet the challenge. To do it, you need to become more positive and self-assertive. You need to erase the concept of limits from your mentality.

You can be successful. To be successful, however, you need to stand up and say: “I can do anything. I can achieve any goal. I have No Limits!”

Your key to success lies within you. All you have to do is knock your heels together three times. It may take more than a wink of the eye, but your goal is possible. It will take perseverance, probably some hard work, and the ability to focus on the goal. With determination and resolve, the limits you feared will dissolve and disappear.

So, from now on, when faced with the question, “What are my Limits?”, you know there is only on acceptable answer, “None. I HAVE NO LIMITS.”
